It’s almost that time of year again when children head back to school, and, being in the flooring industry, that had us thinking. Some flooring is better than others when it comes to families, especially those with younger children.

If you are getting ready to re-do your flooring and want to know the best options for your family, Byrd Tile has the solutions you need.

Best Flooring for Families with Children

There are two major factors that go into choosing the best flooring for your family. From foot traffic to toys and various drops and spills, durability and safety are of most importance when deciding what flooring is right for your household.

Tile and Concrete

Tile and concrete are both extremely durable flooring options, and the option with the most variety. Tile comes in a large range of colors, shapes and sizes, and can even be painted for the ultimate custom look. Concrete can also be painted, so it’s a great option if you are trying to color coordinate, or if your child wants a say in the color of the floor!

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is a great choice for homes with kids. It can be used throughout the home in bedrooms, high traffic areas, and family meeting areas.

They are durable, sustainable and economical. They do not need to be replaced as often as carpet. Specifically, Bamboo and Eucalyptus have become quite popular in the recent years.

The biggest maintenance on them is the occasional sand, buff and refinish, but this is typically only in high traffic areas.

Although not quite as durable as some hardwood, cork is a great option for flooring for families. Cork is pretty resilient when it comes to exposure to scuffs, scratches, sunlight, dents, and spills. It’s a sustainable product that will last for years to come.

Carpet is always an option, but unfortunately, we’re not in the business of carpet. We can, however, recommend a great carpet dealer if you choose to go this route.
